How to Curl Your Eye Lashes

Curling your lashes is one of the easiest, simplest ways to open up and brighten your eyes. They may look a little intimidating, but the results produced when teamed with mascara are fantastic.

How to curl your eye lashes

How to use a Mechanical Lash Curler

1. Start off with clean lashes (NEVER use a mechanical eyelash curler after mascara or you may damage your lashes)

2. Place your eyelash curler at the very base of your lashes and ensure you don’t grab any skin, clamp the lash curler and hold for 5 seconds.

3. Walk the eyelash curler out to the middle of your lashes, clamp and hold for 5 seconds.

4. Walk the lash curler out to the very tips of your lashes, clamp and hold for 5 seconds. For extra curl repeat the steps.

5. Apply two coats of mascara using a curved wand, ensure to wiggle at the base of your lashes.

6. You’re done!

Lash Curling 101

Which lash curler do you recommend?

I love (and always use) Shu Uemura Lash Curler, it seems like a lot of money to spend on a lash curler, but it doesn’t hold cult status for no reason. If you are seeking a budget friendly alternative I quite like the Sally Hansen La Cross Eyelash Curler. With mechanical lash curlers it is important to change the pads every three months for the best results and to avoid damaging your lashes. For heated lash curlers I like *1000 Hour Heated Lash Curler

My lashes don’t hold curl very well, is there anything I can do?

Heat your mechanical lash curler under a hair dryer on a medium heat for a few seconds (test it on your wrist first to make sure it’s not too hot) as it will help your curl hold longer. I also recommend using waterproof mascara as they generally tend to hold curl longer than regular mascaras. If straight lashes are a real issue for you, then lash perming could be a good option.
